"Where Have I Seen That Actor Before?" How to Find Their Other Roles
You've got the name. Now the real itch: "where have I seen them before?" Filmographies are long, and a list of titles doesn't tell you which character they played. Here's how to find it fast.
1. Scan their filmography by what you've actually watched
Look the actor up on IMDb or Wikipedia and you'll get a full list of credits. Don't read it top to bottom — narrow it down:
- Start with your streaming service: if you mostly watch Netflix, check their Netflix titles first.
- Narrow by time: "I think it was a few years ago" — look around those years.
- Narrow by genre: was it a period drama? A crime show? A comedy?
2. Found a likely title? Image-search "title + actor name"
Search images for "[title] [actor name]". Seeing them in costume usually triggers the "oh, THAT character!" moment instantly. A different haircut, beard or period costume is often exactly why you didn't recognize them.
3. See every role with a one-line reminder
If you'd rather skip all of that, try who are you again?. Snap the screen and the actor's best-known titles spread out in a circle, each with a one-line "oh, THAT character!" description.
Tap a title to see scene stills from it, so you can recognize them even under heavy makeup.
Why is this so hard to remember?
We tend to remember actors by the character, not the face. That's why it's hard to connect the nobleman from a period drama with the office worker in a modern series. Character actors who transform for every role are the ones who leave you saying "I've definitely seen them somewhere…"
